The Opposition Aspects of our Times!

The following insights are excerpts from the Tips of the week on my Horoscope column in July and August 2010.

On the eve of the final Saturn opposite Uranus aspect, the synchronicities are apparent. Here in BC it is the HST. The sudden closure of the Nelson Daily News after 109 years came as a big shock. Uranus has a way of synchronizing with outer events that appear to occur suddenly. We are also in the wake of the Solar Eclipse on July 11, which upon closer examination hosts some rather emotional and dramatic triggers. This fact is measurable but some basic understanding of how Astrology works, as in the ability to read an Astrological calendar, is required. Yet, the bigger plot is based on the sign and aspects of the big and far planets especially. Not surprisingly, the aspects between the major planets are very powerful at this time and this trend will continue for some time to come, like the next 5 years… Although there will always be major planetary alignments, the ones active now and through to 2016 are very potent indeed! Of particular importance regarding the aspect  are the Opposition Asepcts.

Saturn and Uranus in Opposition have now formed 4 of 5 conjunctions since November 4, 2008. Observe the first of the 5 synchronizing with the election of Barack Obama. It may seem like old news now, but how unprecedented, revolutionary and synchronistic is that? Now, on July 26 at 10:05 am PDT this pair positioned in a mighty ‘Opposition Aspect’ (= 180 degrees, symbolic of Full Moon and metaphorically like a tug-o-war) will complete their cycle of 5 oppositions. The last in a series of aspects like this one is the decider, the victor in the struggle. Change is inevitably the result. We are already experiencing the magnitude and the consequences of this change. In addition to this, the 5^th of 5 ‘hits’, both planets will be positioned at 0 degrees Libra and Aries respectively. The other 4 connections occurred in Virgo and Pisces. The Cardinal Mode of Aries and Libra implies action as each is symbolic of the first month of each season. Further, zero degrees of Aries and Libra symbolically equal Spring and Autumn Equinoxes. So, the summer peak mentioned many times is here; do you notice the increase in the drama of change on the world stage? (Free Sign-up!)  *NOTE: There are always many overlapping cycles, looking for very specific events on the exact days of powerful planetary alignments misses the point that change is happening as part of a process and flow. Seeking specific events on specific dates when looking to planetary alignments that affect us all reveals a misunderstanding of how Astrology works. The same can be said for December 21, 2012 which is better understood as a 36 year era, 1980-2016, and this aspect series is an important theme in this era.

The Saturn/Uranus Opposition aspect is fully active now. Like an exact Full Moon, the cycle is at its peak. The exchange between these proverbial planetary titans is and will invariably be powerful and eventful. Now, Mars is conjunct Saturn with both at 0 degrees Libra, sharing the same place in the sky. This added boost of energy will prove to really kick start things into dynamic motion again. For many, this will spark or coincide with important initiatives leading to measurable change. People and organizations will become more assertive, even aggressive and violent. At best, a feeling of breakthrough and at worst of breakdown will become more apparent over the next several weeks. In certain respects, this is one of those big moments many have been aware would come and have been waiting to arrive. Many speak of change with prophetic conviction and Astrology serves to measure when these will occur and with what intensity. This is a big one. (Invariably, different people, social sectors, places, businesses and institutions will experience the alignments according to their respective ‘birth charts’.) At least there will be more action and forward motion than suspense and delay. Navigating the changes can be tricky and the tendency to react is higher. This is where Astrology can help by way of measuring the what, when and even how. Astrology measures the inner map, the archetypal blue print behind people and events. It reveals that the universe works according to an inherent consciousness, intent and order all of divine and omnipotent magnitude. Astrology offers insights into our character and the flow of events in our lives that represent our destiny.  The notion of randomness is a relative illusion of perception. However, in the game of life, chance and free will are definite factors. The goal of Astrology is to support conscious co-creation. Prediction of probabilities can be helpful towards the actualization of ideals and possibilities.

Amidst the many possible perspectives to gauge the synchronistic flow that Astrology offers, looking to the relationship exchanges between Jupiter and Saturn is valuable. Considered the ‘social planets’, the 20 year cycle that the two largest planets in the solar system share, offers important insights. Currently, Jupiter and Saturn are in Opposition Aspect (180 degrees). This is the peak point of the cycle, like a Full Moon, when the energies culminate and the core themes come into ‘full bloom’. Many Astrologers attribute this cycle to rhythmic changes in the economy. The changing economic patterns affecting us close to home and all over the world are testimony to this. Many feel we are at a crisis point. The opposition aspects are symbolic of such crisis points and so again we see a clear synchronicity between the planetary positions and affairs occurring here on the surface of our own planet.

What we need now is new visions and strategies as well as new attitudes, values, and priorities. With a growing rift between rich and poor, no one can really win. How can the wealthy hope to thrive with peace of mind and satisfaction when people are hungry, desperate and angry? Include the global environmental challenges that will not simply go away and a massive 20 year baby boomer wave now rolling in (1945 + 65 = 2010) the time for new answers and visions is upon us. The egoic attitude of unchecked ambition backed by short-term vision has brought the world to a desperate place. Maybe it is time we learn to honour the higher mind again and stop deferring to the lower minded ego.

This is where Astrology can help by activating visions and choices that are more in alignment with our true nature and nature itself.
