The Astrology of Event Charts - Featuring New Moon in Libra
Any Astrological event offers the opportunity to create an Event Chart. An event could be a New Moon, any planetary conjunction or other hard aspect, the entry of a planet into a new sign or the more regular types of event like a birth, the launch a of a new business, a ceremonial event like a marriage, or the launching of a ship or a business, or it could be the birth of a new town, city or country and the list goes on. All of these types of charts come under the heading of Electional Astrology. Choosing an auspicious date to begin an event is a very old aspect of Astrology and remains popular today. You know the saying; it is unlucky to begin something on a ‘bad moon’ or ‘unlucky star’. These quaint colloquial statements mask a much more complex understanding of the quality of time. Admittedly, anything can be turned into superstition by way of fearful attitudes which are ever present in the game of life. However, when approached with sincerity and a spirit of ceremony, they bring forward the power of intention and this itself offers a spiritual power to any event. When an event like a New Moon occurs of its own accord, no ceremony or launch of anything implied, the tone of the focus is softened, however it can be used to gain insight on what the chart as a ‘seed event’ might imply. The focus for a seed event can be generic and general or it can be applied more specifically to a person, specific situation or another event that occurs in the cope of that time period. In other words, if you have a special event that is to occur in the scope of New Moon that was laden with conflict, a so called ‘bad moon’, the effects of it may certainly have an influence on that event. This is especially so if the New Moon was an Eclipse. The point is not to stir fears and it is true to say that the intentions, awareness and overall quality of the event that is occurring during such a time may well have the power to over ride any ‘negative influences’. The operative word here is awareness. The other point is when we bring awareness to focus our intention; we bring an additional element of magic to our lives. Many will reject these notions and staunch scientific and religious types often lead the charge. Yet, these know little or care less about the notion of intention and co-creative magic. It is either cynically rejected as unscientific, as though the science is some orthodox religion, an oxymoron to be sure but one that is surprisingly prevalent in the world. Yes, narrow minds can hide behind apparently open minded and healthy skeptical approaches to truth and thereby refute anything that they do not understand with airs of authority, yet often without any scientific method to back up the claims. Experimentation and observational analysis is another feature of science that the dissection, statistical and categorization approaches may not appreciate. In fundamentalist religious perspectives, anything that is not codified in their strict rules is considered evil. These and other such attitudes are prevalent everywhere. Yet, look at the world and notice how out of tune we are with nature. More mature advances in science and religion are actually illustrating that the two are not as separate as has come to be the norm, since the march of the scientific revolution of the past four centuries. It is beautiful to see that the sincere advances of good science are ushering in a new foundation for authentic spirituality wherein judgment, condemnation and damnation has no place. From an Astrological perspective, these advances are proving to support and lend credence to the foundations upon which Astrology rest. These foundations are a synthesis of natural science, holism, communion and co-creation as a reality of life. Neuro science and advanced physics are tow of these branches of science that are leading the charge of the new revolution that is giving birth to a new and better world where unity, intrinsic connection to nature in all her dimensions and responsible co-creation represent the new day. So now, looking to the specifics of the current New Moon in Libra, we see a stellium (grouping) of planets in Libra, namely Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus and the Asteroid Goddess, Pallas Athene. This grouping is quite positive basically and brings an influence of diplomatic attitudes aimed at creating harmonious exchanges. Mars in the first degree of Leo adds a measure of play and sport to the mix. The deeper end of the story is Saturn in the final degrees of Virgo in the midst of hard aspects to both Uranus and Pluto. The exchanges between these three planets are illustrative of the economic changes and the cold tone of the economic downturn, which is heating things up in society. These influences are very significant and will reveal their potency over the next 10 months culminating as summer 2010 peaks. This is sure to prove that Astrology works and has much to offer in the way of helping us to be more aware of the cycles of change and to be able to work more consciously with them. |
