Saturn in Libra - October 29 2009 - October 6 2012

Saturn in Libra

Saturn will enter Libra on October 29th, 2009 at 10:09 am PDT where it will remain for about the next three years. Saturn in Libra will trigger changes that may seem long overdue and which have been immanent all year, at least, and much longer to some. This will certainly produce noticeable changes and stir the pot in the social and economic scene. With Saturn in the sign of the scales, we will see new laws, a new balance of power and new rules to the game. With revolution in the air, however, some of these, at least, will not be accepted idly by the general public and/or certain sectors of society. The balance of power will shift and governments will aim to flex their muscles, yet may well be reminded that their role is to serve the people. This is where the heat will rise and it will begin in the cold of November culminating in mid summer 2010 when Saturn completes its 5th opposition aspect with Uranus, yet this time each in the Cardinal Signs of Libra and Aries respectively. By this time next year, there is no doubt that the balance of power has changed and there will be plenty excitement and drama. Amidst deeply rooted corruptions at the core of civilization, this on-going reality of politics and power will not be ‘resolved’ during this cycle, yet it will change measurably. Although status quo adherents may demonize change-makers and even enforce their position, people will rebel, movements for change will rise and social campaigns and grass roots movements will flourish. Saturn in Libra will prove very colourful indeed.

Looking directly at the ingress Chart of Saturn in Libra we see the Sun and Mercury in Scorpio. Regardless of the chart focus, as with planet ingress like Saturn in Libra, the position of the Sun is always important. So, the Sun and Mercury are in Scorpio, the sign of the spy. Mercury is in the first 2.5 degrees of Scorpio which means that the emphasis is strongly placed on Scorpio themes which include research, undercover activities, spy networks, secrets, covert projects, depth psychological perspectives, inner realms and dimensions and so on. These will all gain added emphasis from people of all segments of society subject to their respect destinies and choice of focus, etc. With the Sun forming an exact Square Aspect (90 degrees) to Mars in Leo, we see the signs of passionate exchanges and forceful expressions with conflicting perspectives. At best, the revolutionary drive will be very strong, on all sides. Fortunately, Mars and the Moon are in one another’s sign, (Mars is the co-ruler for Scorpio.) This will help things go more smoothly and given the overall tenor of this chart, this is a needed grace energy pattern.

Scorpio is a sceptical sign and there will be a good deal of scepticism coming from all segments of society. Mercury in Scorpio tends to be very conservative, so much of this will occur behind the scenes. The revolution will rage yet it may well go on behind the scenes whereby many will be oblivious to it. At best, scepticism approaches things with a very open mind, not wanting to believe but rather to observe, think, study, analyze, experiment and experience first hand. This could well prove to be a much needed ‘levelling of the playing field’. This sceptical attitude will be cast upon any and every body. Socially, things could cool down for a while. Yet, people will be thinking and talking and sharing their views, opinions and beliefs, even if in their closer circles of family and friends and secret networks and so on. Governments too will be under close scrutiny, probably extra close as people have generally lost faith in many world leaders. Perhaps we will awaken to the reality that EVERY PERSON HAS POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES and while these include, they also transcend the decision or not to vote. The age of accountability is on the rise. This trend towards conservatism and scepticism may grow measurably, yet so too may healthy scepticism whereby people really begin to reflect and exchange ideas and think critically and objectively in unprecedented ways and numbers.

With Saturn in close Square Aspect to Pluto, the powers that be and the structural laws and procedures will change along with the economy. This is where most harbour the greatest fears. The recession stands to enter into its next effective stage of development and the results stand to be mixed, as ever. The old guard and ways will suffer most. However, the pace of things will change and for some they may even get a much needed rest and break from habitual concerns and focus. In other words, if you are out of work, for example, the opportunity to think and reflect will be more available. Generally, this aspect implies a shift in consciousness. Challenges from the inside to shift will be as strong as though coming from without, at least. This is interesting. We may see the signs of people changing from within, as though the circumstances served to ‘awaken’ them from their social malaise. Further, we will also see a very significant shift of emphasis to the internet. This cycle will reveal if the World Wide Web, the ‘net’ will protect us from our fall; capture us in its weave, or both. Turning to the net will largely be a choice by necessity as people seek new means of making money. This catapult into its next effective phase of our computer age is inevitable and it will occur over the next 3 years generally and in the next 6 months is particular while Saturn Squares Pluto

Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron still hovering close will also have their play. With Chiron at the midpoint of Jupiter in Neptune in Aquarius at 21 degrees at the time of Saturn’s ingress, humanity will be pushed to take a strong and hard look at the collective issues and wounds that we carry. We will be pressured to take a clearer look at what constitutes our blind spots. Blame and selective perception upheld by pride and denial will be some of the more obvious challenges to overcome in this respect. Amidst all of this awakening and discussing and denying and blaming, the over consciousness level of humanity will be rising. People will be awakening en mass and those who choose to assert their comfortable and conservative attitudes could well quickly turn from the majority to become disconnected minorities. The deeper message of the awakening is that ‘we’ had better start thinking for ourselves and cooperating more, beyond the standard networks that uphold the traditional structures of our modern societies.

Venus is the ruler of Libra and it is a blessing to see Venus in ‘her’ own sign at 18 Libra 22. It is also a blessing that Venus is forming a close and harmonious Trine Aspect to Jupiter which is at 17 Aquarius 37. Venus and Jupiter are generally referred to as the ‘Great Benefics’ in Astrology. That they are sharing a creative, dynamic and harmonious Trine Aspect (120 degrees) is a very positive sign that people will generally recognize that our current attitudes and social structures and patterns are simply not conducive to a hopeful, healthy and promising future. What to do will arise as a more popular question. The many noble and grounded revolutionary grass root movements will thereby get a lot more attention. Reaching out to be more aware and involved is the beginning of the changes we need to make. The more people unplug from habitual means of getting information and ‘news’ the will the awakening occur. Part of the reason, of course, is that much of the popular media represents a conservative status quo and so have less interest in helping people direct their attention to anything other their own interests which are usually connected to economic interests and concerns. So, the revolution of the people will go to its next effective level while Saturn is in Libra and the focus will be on the future and the goal will be to re-establish beauty in the world – Venus in Libra. How beauty is defined is not a given, yet emphasis will be upon how we manage our affairs regarding food, clothing and shelter. New lifestyle values will probably grow and community thinking will increase as people will feel safer in familiar settings and will want to know and befriend their neighbours. This will vie somewhat with the conservative attitudes mentioned, but these will not, at least, represent the majority.
