Total Solar Eclipse of July 21, 2009

On the July 21st New Moon we experienced a powerful Total Solar Eclipse. This event suggests some big shifts and changes that will prove impactful over the next six months. The path of the eclipse crosses through India and China, Japan, Korea and as far as Hawaii.  It is the second New Moon in Cancer in a row with this one at 29 Cancer 27, the last degree of the sign, which in Astrology is considered critical. The basic theme of this eclipse is one of reform. Where there is resistance to the changes that the reform implies, aggression, accidents and even violence can occur. People with planets or angles in their birth chart anywhere from 27 Cancer to 1 or 2 degrees of Leo will especially experience the impact. The change could prove very positive if engaged consciously and with a positive will and focus. At best, it will prove to be a much needed and push for necessary reform. At worst, it could prove to be a rather aggressive shove. For this reason, we are wise to make efforts to cooperate with these energies as we can. This is an area where Astrology can help.

There are several layers of significance linked to this particular Total Solar Eclipse:

1.      It occurs at 29 degrees cancer 27 minutes in the Tropical Zodiac. 29 degrees is considered a critical degree in Astrology. The technical term is anaretic.

2.      It is the second New Moon in Cancer in a row. The previous New Moon was also in Cancer at 1 degree Cancer 30 minutes.

3.      The Sun and Moon are on the cusp of Cancer and Leo and The Moon rules Cancer and the Sun rules Leo.

4.      The duration of this eclipse is measurably longer than usual. This stands to have the effect of increasing the overall influence of this eclipse.

5.      Cancer is the Sign that is ruled by the Moon.

6.      The 4 closest aspect before and after the Solar Eclipse are a Sextile to Saturn, A Trine to Uranus (both before) and a Sextile to Mars and a conjunction to Mercury (both after). Fortunately, all these are harmonious aspects. However, Saturn, Uranus and Mercury when close together are shakers and Mercury acknowledges the fact dryly.

7.      The Moon is Void of Course the moment following the exact New Moon.

8.      Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune are still hovering in a very close, rare conjunction aspect in Aquarius.

The over all picture reveals what is called a splay chart pattern. This pattern is strongly indicative of individuality and the desire to break from routine rhythms. This is important for our times and a feature of needed healing. It is our routines and habitual patterns that keep us locked into trance states. Due to the nature of such trance states, it is difficult to be aware that we are in them. Consequently, we are not aware of how they lull our minds into less conscious and lower vibration states of energy. Breaking time patterns is a key factor in healing and awakening. The massive movement of Emotional freedom Technique is a positive factor helping people to break from of long standing emotional states. So, tune in to these energies and the consciousness raising that they are destined to activate.
