Basic Business Organization Outline

(with examples in red ink)

This 21 point exercise offers you a clear outline to help you to get clear. Lack of vision, of self awareness and of clarity is a basic common problem when it comes to starting and/or organizing your own business. Do this exercise and take your time if you are beginning a business and even if you already run a business yet wish to improve your overall performance, satisfaction and effectiveness. In addition to providing greater clarity generally, it also offers much of the information you will need for your business cards, brochures and website.

1) Determine the type of Business:

1)  commodity (manufacturing and/or sales)

2)  information

3)  service (e.g. in this outline = service)

2) Determine the industry:

e.g.  Communications and Human Resources

3) Personal Vision and Belief :

e.g. “ I believe that all too often employers and managers are themselves not organized and clear so fail to clearly communicate at the outset and this breeds disrespect, frustration, internal employee conflict and overall reduced quality etcetera.  Bringing greater awareness of the fundamental human element which is all too often overlooked yet which is vitally important and most essentially present, I believe that companies are not operating as resourcefully as they can. Employers and management tend to take their employees for granted and do not truly honour the very people who are working for them. Too many companies outsource and it can cost them much more than it needs to and in more ways than one.  All people, your employees in this case have many hidden talents and resources, abilities, determination etcetera to achieve the goal. Outsourcing may be effective, yet has the potential l to underestimate your employees, people you work with on a daily basis and this can lend to undermining the creative synergy already available. When this is tapped and activated then it increases confidences success and profit all way around.”

4) What basic things, services, and knowledge will you provide? Make a list.

5) How will you basically do this? Make an outline matching your list above.

6) Mission Statement (Best 1 sentence description.):

e.g. “Guiding people to work synergistically whether through harmony or conflict on a regular daily basis.”

11) Business Name:

e.g “Human Element Resources”

12) Motto:
