If you live outside the 3) Planetary Movements and Key Dates for October Mercury turned retrograde on October 11th and will remain so until November 1st, All Saints Day! It will be at 9 degrees of Scorpio on the 11th and by October 23rd it we-re-enter Libra and move back to 23 degrees before stationing (‘appear’ to stop). The shadow of the Mercury retrograde period will take another three weeks. This is the time during which it regains its ‘lost ground’. There is an important evolutionary function and beautiful purpose behind retrogrades, so flow with it. The basic interpretation of this retrograde is one of challenged communications. More specifically, when in Scorpio, Mercury retrograde deepens the determination to probe deeply into things, do research and investigate. Negatively, it can lend to dark suspicions, excessive shrewdness and pointed and penetrating language that offend or even wounds; so be aware of this and rise above these pitfalls. When in Libra, Mercury retrograde lends to added challenges of finding ones’ direction and being decisive. Contrary attitudes and even dishonesty for the sake of tact and diplomacy, a common practice, is also more prevalent during this time. Negative aspects to or from Mercury during this time increase the negative tendencies mentioned above. Fortunately, Mercury will sail smoothly this time around in terms of challenging aspects to or from other planets save for one inspiring trine aspect (120 degrees) to Mars on the 17th, an opportunistic sextile to Saturn on Friday October 19th and another sextile, good for generating ideas and attracting opportunities, with Pluto on the 26th. Since Mercury will be retrograde in Scorpio forming this aspect to Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, this could prove to yield deep, rich gems of insight. By November 11 Mercury will re-enter Scorpio. Venus the ruling planet for Libra formed a conjunction aspect (same place in the sky) with Saturn in the early degrees of Virgo on the 13th. Saturn is considered well-placed when in Libra due to its determination to commit to the rules and structure of solid relationship building, based on positive attitudes and actions. Saturn does bring delay and limitation to whatever it contacts and this can certainly prove frustrating as it feels like a block. However, the high side of this connection implies the concentration, commitment and effort to establish strong, integral and enduring expressions. These generally require tools, skills, methods and attitudes that contribute to creating success in our relationships. Venus is moving rather slowly after being retrograde for about 6 weeks this past late summer. On the 16th she forms a sexy sextile with Mars in Cancer. If not for romantic opportunities, this combination could prove positive for friendly gatherings and parties – too bad it is Tuesday out of many people’s natural rhythms. Watch the tone of the day to see if you notice flowing opportunities, especially in male/female interactions. Venus will form an opposition aspect (180 degrees and of the nature of a full moon) with Uranus on the 25th. Since the moon will itself be full that day, it could prove to be disruptive or at least very excitable. Use it to its best advantage by giving to situations sincerely. Mars entered Cancer on September 28th and will remain there for the rest of the year due to it turning retrograde in mid November. I will bring more attention to this rather difficult cycle next month. Mars in Cancer in a birth chart is a strong indication of emotional abuse in childhood. On the high side it is all about renovations and restorations. For this period it will at least form mostly positive aspects. An inconjunct aspect (150 degrees) to Jupiter suggests the needs to let go of, overcome and/or eliminate excess or exaggeration of any kind. Jupiter continues to gallop gaily through its own sign of Sagittarius which it will do until mid December. Jupiter has an 11.86 year cycle so spends almost exactly a year in each sign – how “just” for the planet of law and justice. Jupiter is larger than all the planets put together! This is why Jupiter inspires risk and faith and is the planet that says, so to speak, follow me and I will lead you to the treasure. This is generally true, however the biggest challenge with Jupiter is excess. When a planet is in its own sign it signifies a position of honour so make the best of it and tune-in to where your destiny wants to carry you to greater heights of awareness, knowledge and risk. The big news though is the square aspect to Uranus on the 9th. This basically signifies the need to re-orient our vision and focus according to the realities of our times. It is a caution against initiating big projects unless these have some history of experience, cultivation and prior performance of some kind. On the other hand, as Uranus is so unpredictable, it can signify lucky breaks and opportunities that seem to appear ‘out of the blue’. This is a favourable aspect for making changes and choices that lead to more freedom. Yet, freedom pursued for its own sake at the expense of more sober considerations will surely produce a hefty bill later. Use this aspect to its best advantage by taking risks to advance to a higher level. 4) Sign/ Star Spotlight The Sun in Libra is a time of reflection and readjustment for us all. In Astrology, the Sun is said to be in its “Fall” when in Libra. Note that we commonly refer to autumn as fall. Libra is also the six o’clock point on the Astrological dial, the time of the setting sun. The 7th House Cusp also, called the Descendant, marks the beginning of the house of relationships, outer contacts and adversaries whether in personal, professional or other social arenas where we encounter others. The Descendant in one’s Natal Chart offers a strong clue about the type of person and associations we seek in life. The position of Libra, Venus and Pallas Athene and the Earth itself tell us more about our relationship attractions and choices. The Earth, our planet that is and not the element, by the way is always 180 degrees from the Sun’s position in one’s Libra is the 7th sign of the Zodiac, is ruled by Venus and co-ruled by the asteroid goddess Pallas Athene and is a Cardinal air sign. Cardinal signs are those that mark the beginning of each season and coincide with the solstices and equinoxes. Capricorn, Aries and Cancer are the other Cardinal signs. In the playing cards which were created by Astrologers as a divination tool, the Cardinal signs are the kings. People generally understand Libra to be associated with relationships, harmony and beauty. The weigh scales are the symbol for Libra and as such represents the processes of attaining balance. The secret to achieving balance is movement and change versus stasis. This is so because everything in the phenomenal universe from the cosmic to the molecular is ever moving and cycling and is in a process of change. Kings as leaders are movers and shakers who lead others to create changes to stay in step with the evolutionary currents. This is also why people with the Sun in Libra, often especially the women, experiences progressive and often sudden mood changes as the balance - counter balance process ensues. People born with Sun in Libra are often noticeably attractive, intelligent, refined and much stronger than they appear, both physically and mentally. This is partly so because Libra’s polarity is Aries, which is where the Earth is positioned when the Sun is in Libra. The Earth, our planet, is always positioned exactly 180 degrees across from the sun, due to the fact that our experience of the solar system is geo-centric, or earth-centered. The Sun and the Earth in this 180 degree relationship is symbolic of the dynamic balance we all must maintain for the sake of health, happiness and success. This theme is reflective of a new paradigm that is emerging - a holistic paradigm. In addition to the classic theme of male/female balance and equality, like yin and yang we can also recognize this new world view in terms of “whole brain function”. This will be good for us all and our very survival of a species may depend upon it. Our opportunity and challenge now is to use both hemispheres of our brain with mutual respect, as in successful relationships. The importance of this is that the left brain quantifies while the right qualifies. We may be designated with numbers for the sake of a complex society yet we are persons first and foremost and more importantly, we are souls incarnate with ego-personalities through which to function, express, evolve and co-create. Can you see the importance of this balance in the computer age – quantity and quality? 5) Health Awareness As an Astrologer it is and always has been my primary goal to focus upon health, whole health that is. Whole health includes the body, mind, emotions and soul of a person – earth, air, water and fire. Many claim to be holistic practioners, but if all four are not attended to then the term holistic does not truly apply. 3 types of body work for example, is not necessarily holistic. If discussion of a person’s mental and emotional health is addressed and recognized then the practioners is certainly much closer to the holistic mark. Bringing recognition to and nurturing the soul is probably the trickiest part. Many people seem to have only vague notions of what this means or how to do it. In a materialistic society and world like ours this is understandable. Even many Astrologers, despite access to the natal chart, which interfaces the personality and the soul, reduce it to a mere tool for personality delineation. This certainly is part of the art, but only a part. The goal here is to awaken to the evolutionary principle active in life generally and any person’s life specifically. The evolution of the soul is measured to varying degrees with Astrology. This is especially true when an appreciation of soul levels is understood and brought to light. In my practise, which I recognize to have a holistic source, yet which I also acknowledge does not immediately or actively address the whole person, in other words, I am not giving body work or demonstrating specific exercises for the body, although I have done so on occasion*, so I compensate for this by at least bringing attention to a whole and healthy lifestyle. I do this by making myself and then in turn my friends and clients aware of the importance of them, and then I offer lists, strategies and inspirations, as I am doing here. Please note, it is my intention to engage in a more holistic way with people in the future by offering Art of Living workshops. I have already done some of these and have created a holistic platform of awareness and approaches based on the four elements, Fire, Earth, Air & Water. Last month I experienced some technical difficulty with my email and so not everyone received the whole news letter. I can fairly say that from that standpoint, it was not holistic. Consequently, I am including the list of MLM companies that I appreciate. Last month I explained my interest and offered this list. The Newsletter for September is in UPDATES on my site as well, so if you are interested, please check it out. As I am always exploring new health angles I am open to input. Creating and sustaining whole health takes a good deal of focus and determination to learn. I always think that we should have been taught and should now teach the basics in school. I do not think that this important aspect of life is being addressed very clearly. I imagine it is because of private interests influencing educational policy and curriculum. For example, we are not taught the incredible importance of drinking plenty of water. Second, it is not made clear that learning to create an acid/alkaline balance is the key to good health. Many people are literally full of shit…or… fecal matter because they do not realize that unless we learn to cleanse our colon it accumulates over time and creates an environment for disease. Our food due to denatured soils is nutritionally depleted, yet many people think the government is taking care of us. The list goes on and on and I am happy for you to add to it with your own examples. I would love to compile hundreds because there are that many. Many doctors will downplay these claims based on their training, yet I have seldom met truly healthy doctors. Consequently, I have created this section with the intention of becoming more aware of health and of sharing my journey. There are many good, healthy products for physical, mental and emotional well-being that I like and some of them are easily available at the grocery store. If you have any questions, comments or input please send them along to me.” 6) Global Events The 2012 end date is gaining increasing attention around the world. It all began about 20 years ago as Mayan Astrology gained increasing popularity. With 2008 being the first 1 year of the new millennium and the same year that Pluto moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn, we can expect it to be pivotal, at least in an initial sort of way. Saturn just entered Virgo and due to it turning retrograde along the way will be there until the summer of 2010! Jupiter will enter Capricorn later this year. The government may well begin to really flex its muscles with this transit. Yet, Pluto will come in and start the 15 year clean-up. Back to the end of the Mayan calendar, there are two dates in particular that stand out: 1) April 2011 according to the Long Count Calendar is the big turning point. 2) December 21 2012 is the date according to the Dreamspell. I use the Dreamspell regularly and despite objections by some that it is a fake blah blah, it is in alignment with the Gregorian calendar and whatever else we may say of it, it is in use all over the world and I venture not merely due to corruptions. It is actually very accurate to the actual Earth/Sun relationship. On the other hand, there are some significant planetary ingresses and aspects that all take place in 2011. Either way you want to slice it, something big is unfolding and is gaining a lot of press. In particular for 2011, Uranus will enter Aries and very soon thereafter 7) Musings of an Astrologer I imagine that many of you, if not all, have at least heard about the Big Bang theory. I used to conceive that this theory was plausible, but over time my conviction weakened. The reason it weakened is because it basically proposes a point in time when the whole universe came into being at one sudden moment, almost arbitrarily. In other words, everything in existence came from nothing and life is a consequence of a long series of developments based upon chance. Laws emerged out of time according to the nature of ‘things’. This position both satisfies the creationist theory that divinity sparked creation all at once and the materialistic theory that everything emerged from no thing. In certain respects, both positions are valid considerations. However, my argument to each is as follows. 1) If everything was sparked by divinity, which I believe to be true, why did it have to happen all at once, with just 1 initial beginning? Perhaps there were many simultaneous sparks. Are our telescopes large enough to span the universe? At least this position acknowledges higher powers and an inner source that is the cause of and exists on inner dimensional planes. 2) If everything comes from no thing or nothing, then no thing must be quite some thing! This ‘randomness’ model is an illusion. There are many sources of evidence, that Astrology works is one of them. That we can determine character and destiny from our Astrology charts, numerology, palms, eyes, birth order and so on offers clear evidence that the universe is conscious, not simply filled with endless life forms, conscious in and of itself as a whole. The no thing is partially correct in that life emerged from inner dimensions which, from our perspective, do not consist of matter. Matter is material or the thing ness or stuff of life. The inner dimensions have been investigated and studied and a few models have been formulated. I subscribe to the ancient Hindu model which is based on 7 major dimensions, each with 7 sub dimensions then divided by 7 more basically. This model which is reflected in both sound and color spectrums includes the following: Physical = body, personality, conscious mind, 5 senses, Earth plane as we know it… Etheric = Subtle body which receives and maintains body structure and overall state of health and vibrancy. A ghost is usually an etheric sheath layer. Astral = Emotional and imaginative, soul, subconscious, memory, psychic, lower astral is the hell worlds of concentrated negative emotion. Mental = Mind of God, archetypes, logic, reason, intuition, super conscious, over soul heaven worlds, beginning of duality. Buddhic = Beyond duality, realm of unities, an exalted version of the Astral dimensions, peace, bliss. Monadic = Soul groups. Nirvanic = The Kingdom of God, far beyond the heaven worlds of the high mental planes. The deep inner source of spirit. The key point about the Big Bang that I dislike is that it is far too simplistic. Worse yet, it justifies materialistic perspectives and actions. It is oblivious of higher, inner dimensions. The Big Bang represents the materialistic side of physics based on outer causes and ignores the findings, experiences, observations and intuitions of many other fields of human endeavour in a narrow yet highly elitist fashion, I suppose having big telescopes has contributed to the ‘Big Bias’. Anyway, I am reading a book called, “The Big Bang Never Happened” by Eric J. Lerner. He represents that contingency of science that does not buy the Big Bang theory either. It would appear that many do not, yet it continues to persist like a bad rumour perhaps partially because it sounds good and is simple. Again, the problem is that it perpetuates materialistic notions and justifies perpetuating rational based on reductionistic reasoning. That is the crux of the matter. Lerner devotes a long second chapter in his book to the history of science and scientific thinking to support his argument about the emotional and unscientific bias of scientists who uphold the whole theory, despite strong scientific evidence to the contrary. Lerner basically postulates that many scientists allow belief, as in religion, to distort their perspectives. After all, there really are no scientists, there are simply human beings with both rational mental faculties and emotional non-rational faculties who are educated and trained and employed to work with scientific processes. That few if any Astronomers who discredit Astrology, have probably not studied Astrology, or experienced it by way of having a personal reading is evidence of their stanch bias. Interestingly, Astrologers generally appreciate astronomy and biology and physics and any and all academic subjects, yet these same rarely lend credence to Astrology, probably on the assumption that it is based on myth etcetera. Of course, myth is not a word that means fallacy, it denotes rather a n allegorical story used to illustrate deep and profound truths. When Albert Einstein promoted the Theory of Relativity, he was, I believe, reminding us all, the scientific community in particular, that the endeavour to achieve purely objective perspective cannot be achieved because the observer can not ultimately be separated from that which is being observed, and so casts a ‘shadow’ of personal bias upon whatever is being observed. In other words, no human can achieve pure objectivity and this has been the goal of science all along. We are one with creation and we-co-create it with our minds, soul, perceptions, beliefs, focus etcetera. But shhhhh, don’t tell anyone because many scientists continue to rely upon this fantasy for the sake of governmental funding. You see, we humans tend to learn to not see what we do not want to see if it does not serve our needs and agenda. 8) Website Special Anyone who has a full-length Astrology reading with me in September can request a FREE S.T.A.R.
